General Information
In the event of a claim
All our clients' claims, where insurance cover is operative, are processed and settled by insurers. However, as a broker we are the first point of contact and always encourage our clients and/or their representatives to make contact with us in the first instance. By doing so, we will advise you on your insurance policy cover and how to make a claim.
From your first point of notification to full and final settlement our claims team will monitor the progress of your claim and, where necessary, negotiate settlement on your behalf. Such monitoring includes ensuring repairs or replacements are completed to your satisfaction and appropriate costs are recovered; protecting any no claims bonuses and, of course, clams from third parties. By taking ownership of our client's claim we are able to handle all queries or concerns, on your behalf, ensuring the claim is settled promptly and to your satisfaction.
For more comprehensive information, please refer to the “claims” section of your policy booklet
If you need to make a claim or would like advice, please do not hesitate to contact our Claims Team on 0151 255 1999 who will be happy to help with any query you may have. In the event of an emergency, you can also contact your insurer direct. You can view insurers claim and emergency numbers by clicking on the relevant company listed on the left.
You should notify any circumstances giving rise to a potential claim as soon as possible. You will need to provide your name, address and policy number, the date and details of loss. You may be asked to complete a claims form and provide, for example, original documents such as receipts, invoices, instruction booklets or photographs that confirm the make, model or cost of the item you’re claiming for; the date you bought the lost/damaged item(s); written confirmation by a qualified repairer that items are beyond repair.
- Burglary
If you've been burgled or had items stolen, you should notify the police immediately and give us/your insurers the Crime Reference Number - Motors
In the case of a claim under a motor policy you should not enter into dialogue or correspondence with a third party but should refer them to your insurer who will want to know the Incident Number if the police attended. They may want to have your vehicle inspected by an engineer and so will need to know where it is. If your vehicle or something in or on it has been stolen you would similarly be expected to provide the Incident Number. - Flooding
As you may be aware, the UK has in recent times suffered an increase in the incidence of flooding, the effects of which can be devastating. and so it may be worth while to consider how prepared you might be if it happened to you. Here are some practical suggestions which you can easily put into place:
- Keep vital possessions e.g. financial and legal documents or items of sentimental value stored as high up as possible and preferably upstairs and consider water proofcontainers for them
- Make a list of useful numbers e.g. local council, Emergency Services, Floodline 0845 988 1188
- Make up a flood kit and include such items as a torch, battery radio, first aid (and hygiene) kit, blankets, copies of your important documents like your insurance policies and a mobile phone with important numbers pre-entered
- Make sure you know where to turn off your gas, electricity and water
- Make sure you have adequate insurance, most buildings policies cover flood but check that your contents are covered too. Contact us if you are in any doubt
