You may be caught by various statutes and regulations relating to the inspection of lifting equipment, pressure systems, electrical equipment, local exhaust ventilation equipment, power presses and any other work equipment used or installed at a workplace.

Failure to have the necessary inspections undertaken can mean serious defects are detected.  If the serious defect presents imminent danger to persons working in the vicinity, this will be reported to the HSE.  You have a duty to have the defect remedied.
